The first Cult Cinema Showdown of 2022 features two films based on video games that TRIED to be different than their source materials. What we ended up with were #SuperMarioBros. and #FutureCops. While Super Mario Bros. was the first ever video game movie adaptation set in a dystopian Manhattan-based "Dinohattan", Future Cops pulled characters directly from #StreetFighter into a chaotic dystopian 2043 Hong Kong with time travel elements akin to The Terminator, mixed with Rom-Com.
